2019 Newtown Tag-A-Gift program in full swing! Here is one of the trees located at Taunton Press.
Read all about it in below Newtown Bee article: Four Golden Opportunities Tag-A-Gift Locations Set UpBy Shannon Hicks Published: Dec 05, 2019 11:27 AMPrint Tweet Text Size Golden Opportunities works in partnership with several Newtown groups as well as elder care facilities in Newtown and the region. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents in these facilities by providing outreach services of comfort, compassion, and support. This holiday season, Golden Opportunities is again providing some joy to the residents of these facilities through a Tag-A-Gift program. Four locations have been set up for this holiday season. The public is invited to take a tag, purchase the requested item, and return it to that location by Tuesday, December 10. This year’s locations are the lobby of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street; Newtown Savings Bank’s new location, 32 Church Hill Road; the Customer Service desk at Stop & Shop, within Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street; and Taunton Press, 63 South Main Street. Gifts need to be left unwrapped and have their request tag attached to them when they are dropped off. Gift receipts are requested if possible, as are gift bags. Newtown Girl Scout Ambassador Troop 50293 have again crafted handmade ornaments for the program. One ornament is attached to each gift request tag, and the ornaments are meant to be kept as gifts for those purchasing gifts for the Golden Opportunities outreach. Golden Opportunities received requests, according to volunteer Karen Harris said, from 185 people this year. The gifts will be delivered later this month to residents of Newtown Rehabilitation & Health Care Center (formerly Masonicare at Newtown), St John Paul II Center in Danbury, and Notre Dame in Norwalk. The gift requests are simple and relatively inexpensive. They range from knitting books for ideas and patterns to sweatpants to body wash and lotion, hats, a throw pillow, or chocolates. For additional information, call Ms Harris at 203-304-9858. |

Tag-A-Gift 2017
We are again delighted to be able to participate in the 2017 Tag-A-Gift program, which will benefit local seniors in need in addition to local foster children. During this holiday season, there will be numerous gift trees or wreaths located throughout Newtown. Each tree or wreath will have an ornament and tag with a description of the gift recipient and their special wish. If you would like to participate, please take a tag, purchase the gift, and return it unwrapped with the tag and a gift receipt to the same location by December 14. If you would like to include a gift bag as well, you will greatly assist our wrapping and delivery efforts.
Last year, through the generosity of community donors (Santas) we provided almost 250 lovely gift items or gift certificate to local seniors. Your generosity truly warmed the holidays for all these individuals. Thank you for your consideration to participate again this year.

REMEMBER YOUR LOVED ONES WITH A HOLIDAY DONATION
Do you find yourself in a quandary at holiday time, trying to identify the perfect gift for each person on your list? Do you dread going to the mall and find yourself biting your lip as you hunt in vain for a parking space? Do you wish that gift-giving were less ‘stuff-centered’ and more ‘thought-centered’? Look no further----we at Golden Opportunities can help!
By making a tax-deductible contribution to Golden Opportunities in honor of the ‘special someones’ on your list you will solve all those problems. For a minimum of $10 per gift we will send each of your designees a festive holiday card, notifying them of your thoughtful generosity in support of our work with the elderly. We will also include information about Golden Opportunities so they can see just how special and meaningful your contribution is.
Please send your donation along with the name and address of each person you wish to honor by December 20th to:

Golden Opportunities donates two Christmas trees to one of our eldercare facilities partners, Saint John Paul II Center in Danbury. Saint John Paul was in need of new trees and we were able to help!!! "Opportuner" Neil Callaghan poses with Mary Niedermayer from Saint John Paul's recreation staff. Merry Christmas!!!!
'Opportuners' Neil and Susan Callaghan decorate the Golden Opportunities-sponsored Christmas tree at the Edmond Town Hall in Newtown. We are a grateful participant in the Newtown Junior Women's Club Tag-A-Gift program, which places numerous trees throughout Newtown with gift tags for specific gifts for area children and seniors in need. People just pick a tag from the tree, purchase the gift and return it to the Town Hall by December 18. All gifts will be delivered to the seniors before Christmas. We worked with our local eldercare facilities' partners to identify specific wishes for seniors in need. Their first name, age, wish and, in some cases, unique personal information are on each gift tag carefully prepared by the Newtown Junior Women's Club staff in order to more personalize the gift selection process.
Thank you to the Newtown Junior Women's Club, the Edmond Town Hall and to all Tag-A-Gift Program participants for your support, thoughtfulness and generosity.
